Hi Howie, The snow was coming down sideways that night, the kind of snow that stuck to your clothes even after you came inside. Lena was at the top of the stairs asleep, as usual. I was there early to meet a friend of mine by the name of Bill Staines, from New Hampshire, so we could go get some dinner before his show. I'd been playing at my college coffeehouse in NJ, but never back home this would be the first time, as I was supposed to do a couple of tunes before Bill's show.
All I remember Lena saying before I went on was something about a local emerging artist, it suddenly struck me that she was talking about me.
After the show we met up with Logan English who taught me to drink Cognac that night. At one juncture Bill turned to me and said, "So,...what did you think?" I thought for a minute and said, "I kind of enjoyed it!" After a long sigh Logan said, "Damn,...there goes another one."
